Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
— John 12:3 (ESV)
In John 12:3, Mary’s act of anointing Jesus’ feet with expensive ointment made the entire house filled with a beautiful fragrance. It got me thinking about the power of surrendering ourselves fully to Christ. When we surrender our worries, fears, and doubts to Him, our lives become a sweet aroma of peace and contentment.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
— Matthew 6:30-34 (ESV)
Matthew 6:30-34 reminds us of God’s incredible provision. Just like how He clothes the grass of the field, He will surely take care of our needs. So let’s not be anxious about the future or get caught up in worldly desires. Instead, let’s seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, knowing that He will add all we need to our lives.
A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
— Psalm 23:1 (ESV)
Psalm 23:1 is a comforting reminder that the Lord is our shepherd and He provides everything we need. We can trust in Him and know that we shall not want for anything.
Today, let’s take a moment to surrender all our worries and fears to God, knowing that He will take care of us abundantly. Let’s focus on seeking His kingdom and trusting in His provision. May our lives be filled with the sweet fragrance of surrender and contentment.
