And there I will give her her vineyards
and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt. Hosea 2:15
The Valley of Achor is the Valley of Trouble. It is where Achan and his family were stoned to death because of Acan’s sin against the Lord that had caused trouble for the people of Israel during Joshua’s conquest when leading Gods people to possess the Promised Land.
The LORD said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face? Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings. Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you. Get up! Consecrate the people and say, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the LORD, God of Israel, “There are devoted things in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you.” In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. And the tribe that the LORD takes by lot shall come near by clans. And the clan that the LORD takes shall come near by households. And the household that the LORD takes shall come near man by man. And he who is taken with the devoted things shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has done an outrageous thing in Israel.’”
— Joshua 7:10-15
Previously, Israel had gone before Ai and was defeated in battle because there had been hidden sin in their camp.
In Hosea, the Lord is saying that He will make something that they understood well to become a Door of Hope!
God has done the same for us. He has made atonement for our sin! He has made a way of escape. He has turned our valley of trouble into a doorway of hope!
I don’t know about you but sin caused me a great deal of trouble! Thank God, He has made a way of escape and has provided us a way out. We no longer have to be defeated by our enemies. One such enemy for me was addiction. My sinful living and selfish choices caused me a great deal of suffering. Jesus made a way of escape for me. My valley trouble became a door of opportunity and hope through Jesus.
Jesus said-
I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
— John 10:9-10
My suffering brought me to Christ!
Your valley of trouble doesn’t have to remain that way. In fact, your place of trouble can become your place of freedom, peace, and victory. It can become a place that is fruitful and produce the righteous of God.
“And there I will give her her vineyards”
God will make your life fruitful again!
Beloved, we don’t have to remain in a place of defeat! God has made a way out for us all!! In fact, when turn our lives over to Him He will give us double for our trouble!
Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.
— Isaiah 61:7
God will turn our mourning into something more meaningful and our tears will become tears of joy instead of tears of heartache!
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,” Romans 14:17 NIV
Our sin may have caused us pain but His pain and suffering has caused us freedom!
“Come back to the place of safety, all you prisoners who still have hope! I promise this very day that I will repay two blessings for each of your troubles.”
Zechariah 9:12 NLT
Amen
