Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Sometimes it’s tough to trust your own judgment when you’re in the middle of a storm. You start seeing things sideways, second-guessing every move. But if you get a word, a real word from the Lord – that’s your anchor. It holds you steady when everything else is spinning, reminding you that Someone way bigger than you is running the show and has already walked ahead.
Think about Peter. Jesus gave him an invitation to step out of the boat onto water that had been battering them all night.
And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Matthew 14:23-30
The boat was getting hammered. It was dark, waves crashing, wind howling. Then they spot what looks like a ghost gliding across the chaos. Jesus speaks, telling them to take heart. Peter hears Him, and suddenly he’s like, “Lord, let me come to You!” We do the same, see Jesus moving in the impossible and beg to join Him. He says, “Come.” But it’s not an easy place. The wind doesn’t stop just because you stepped out. Peter didn’t wait for calm seas. He stepped out when it was ugly. I believe that wind “against them” was training ground. I bet in that split second Peter thought, Safer out there with Jesus than stuck in this boat! Or maybe, Walking on water? Count me in! Until the wind kicked up again and stole his focus. You can’t see wind, right? It was the effects of the waves slapping, boat rocking, fear screaming that yanked his eyes off Jesus. The results of the chaos!
Here’s the glory: Jesus didn’t let him drown. Didn’t let the storm win. Didn’t let Peter’s falter erase the invitation. That same word that got him out of the boat reached down and pulled him up and got him safely through. Maybe you’re in deep water right now. Only God can pull off the miracle you need. You prayed, you got a word now hold it like Peter held “Come.” Everything around you might be yelling, You misheard! You blew it! But don’t flinch. Stay locked on the Word. Your miracle’s still coming.
Peter got a word from the Living Word. He wobbled, but that cry—“Lord, save me!” was enough. Jesus pulled him up, and Peter walked in the supernatural because he dared to trust the word first.
Trust the process. Trust the Word. The wind’s loud, but He’s louder.
